Information for patients
Initial exam
At the initial exam the patient, or the parent if the patient is a minor, will be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire. Dr. Ball or Dr. Sproule will then carry out an assessment and advise you if orthodontic treatment is required. If it is too early to begin treatment your child may be placed on a recall schedule and be seen again in six to twelve months. If orthodontic treatment is required it will be discussed in general terms but no treatment plan will be developed until more information is obtained in the form of x-rays and molds of the teeth. The initial exam is usually quite short, lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Records appointment
If treatment is required, a records appointment will follow the initial exam. At this appointment photographs of the face and teeth will be taken along with upper and lower molds of the teeth. A series of x- rays will be taken as well. Occasionally, an x-ray of your child’s hand will be required to assess growth potential. The records appointment takes about one hour to complete.
Consult appointment
At the consult appointment Dr.Ball or Dr. Sproule will highlight areas of concern and discuss the various treatment options. More detailed information about the specific type of orthodontic treatment will be provided. This appointment is usually 30 minutes in length.
